John Ray Grisham (born February 8, 1955) is a professional lawyer and a famous American writer best known for his numerous legal thrillers. His first book "A Time to Kill" was inspired by a case he has been closely observing working for a small law practice. It took three years to complete this book and, as it often happens to starting writers, the book was rejected by 28 publishers. Eventually, Grisham found a publisher who agreed to print 5,000 copies of his work, and "A Time to Kill" was published in June 1989 when Grisham was 34.
By now John Grisham has written thirty-six books. "The Firm" is the most reprinted novel.
Eleven of his books have been a story source for the movies or TV series. All of the Grisham's first seven legal thrillers were made into movies.
